Masoor Dhal Recipes

Ingredients : |
4 tbsp oil
3 cloves
2 tsp ground coriander
1 tsp turmeric
6 cardamom pods
1 inch cinnamon stick
1 onion, chopped
1 inch piece of fresh root ginger, chopped
1 green chili, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, chopped
1/2 tsp garam masala
8 oz masoor dhal (red split lentils)
4 tbsp lemon juice
salt
marjoram, to garnish |
Method :
- Heat the oil, add cloves, ground
coriander, turmeric, cardamom pods and cinnamon, fry until they
start to swell.
- Add onion, fry 5 minutes until
translucent.
- Add ginger, chili, garlic, garam
masala, cook 5 minutes.
- Add lentils, stir and fry for 1
minute.
- Season to taste with salt and add
enough water to come about 1.25 inches above the level of the
lentils.
- Bring to the boil, cover, simmer
for 20 minutes, until the dhal is really thick and the lentils are
tender.
- Sprinkle with lemon juice and stir
to mix.
- Garnish with marjoram.
- Ready to serve.
