Brussels sprouts
about
450ml water or chicken stock
25g butter
225g
chestnuts, rinsed and drained
salt,
optional and freshly ground black pepper |
Method :
- Cut a slice from the base of each
Brussels sprout.
- Cut a cross in the base of large
ones so that they cook evenly, and tear off the outer leaves.
- Place the sprouts in a covered
steamer over boiling stock or water.
- Cook for 6-8 minutes, according to
size, until just tender.
- Melt the butter in a frying pan,
add the sprouts and chestnuts and stir them carefully over a medium
heat for 2-3 minutes.
- Transfer to a warm serving dish,
season, cover with foil and keep warm until ready to serve.
The most traditional vegetable to serve
with the Christmas bird.
